History of the LJAWF

The mission of the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival is to celebrate La Jolla's artist colony roots while advancing the arts, education, and our community.

LJAWF was originally created in 2009 as an extension of the Friends of La Jolla Elementary’s Open Aire Farmers' Market, which has united the community since 1998 with its lively marketplace and support for local education. In its inaugural year, LJAWF attracted over 20,000 attendees, a testament to the incredible community support surrounding its volunteers’ efforts.

LJAWF is organized by a collaborative, dedicated team of community activists and parents from the three benefitting elementary schools. It features juried artists, live entertainment, a wine & beer garden, gourmet food vendors, a family art center, and a silent auction. Come celebrate with us on the second weekend in October and become part of our history!
